What is it?

  • PBX is a private telephone network used within a company.

  • It is a telephone system which allows the telephone lines to be shared by more than one person.

  • Allowing all users to share a certain number of external phone lines. 

  • The PBX itself typically lives in an office's telecom closet.

PBX vs IP PBX

PBX

  • Analog voice is converted into binary (0s &1s) and then transferred through digital lines.

  • Can be connected to analog phone & digital phone.

  • Require both a voice and data cable.

RJ 11

  • International call rate higher.

  • Good for SMBs.

IP PBX

  • Analog voice is converted into digital & sliced into many packets to be sent.

  • Can be connected to an analog phone, digital phone & VoIP phone.

  • VoIP phone plugged into an Ethernet.

RJ 45

  • Call rate is lower or free because it uses the internet.

  • Good for SMBs and Large companies.
