IO Devices

What is it?

  • An IO device, an input/output device is any hardware used by a human operator or other systems to communicate with a computer.

  • This device is a hardware device that has the ability to accept inputted, outputted or other processed data.

  • It also can acquire respective media data as input sent to a computer or send computer data to storage media as storage output.

Input Devices

Sending data to a computer.

Output Devices

Receiving data from a computer.

I/O Devices

Have both functionalities.

List of Devices

Input Devices

  • An input device is any hardware device that sends data to a computer, allowing you to interact with and control it.

  • eg.

  • Mouse

  • Keyboard

  • Microphone

I/O Devices

  •  The I/O is  any program, operation or device that transfers data to or from a computer and to or from a peripheral device.

  • Every transfer is an output from one device and an input into another.

  • eg.

  • Modem

  • CD-R/RW drive

  • Hard drive

  • Digital camera

  • Tuch screen

  • USB  drive

I/O Device Error

  • Because most hardware devices do not require an input and output communication with the computer, most IO devices are storage devices.

  • So, when you encounter an I/O error or I/O device error it is typically an indication that the operating system cannot read or write to a device.

Reasons of getting IO device errors

  • If write-protection on an SD card.

  • Trying to burn a CD and it's not a CD-R disc.

  • No more disk space.

  • The file is being used by another user or program on the computer.

  • Failing or bad hardware.

Fix IO errors

  • Reboot the computer.

  • Make sure you have all of the latest drivers for your devices.

  • If you are using Microsoft Windows, make sure there are no errors in Device Manager.

  • If you have recently moved the computer, open the computer and make sure the cables inside the computer are firmly connected.
